2025-28 Pupil premium strategyWhat is the Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to publicly funded primary and secondary schools in England to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.
The Pupil Premium has one central aim: to raise the educational outcomes of disadvantaged pupils.
An effective Pupil Premium strategy allows schools to intervene early and prevent these attainment gaps from growing. It is one of the most powerful tools we have for supporting education equity.
How much is the Pupil Premium?
In 2025-26, schools receive £1,515 for each registered child entitled to the grant.
Pupil premium is not a personal budget for individual pupils, and schools do not have to spend pupil premium so that it solely benefits pupils who meet the funding criteria. It can be used:
- to support other pupils with identified needs, such as those who have or have had a social worker, or who act as a carer
- for whole class interventions which will also benefit non-disadvantaged pupils
